Christina Keller
You only have to spend a couple of minutes chatting with Christina Keller to realize that she brings a new dimension of warmth and creativity to her profession as an accountant. With a bright smile and a bubbly, exuberant personality, she possesses a freshness that gives energy to the Talley & Company team, and she receives energy from working at a firm that embraces her personality and allows her to "do her thing." In her role as a tax and audit accountant, she interacts daily with the firm's clients and staff as she assists with the preparation of corporate and individual income tax returns and quarterly estimates for corporate and individual income taxpayers. When she is not working in the tax side of the business, she is assisting in audits and reviews. As a young professional, Talley works for Christina. She is excited to be a part of a small service-oriented firm where she can be exposed to all facets of the accounting business and grow in her professional development.
Obviously intelligent, Christina's interests and hobbies are wide-ranging. She loves to travel, swing dance and garden, but beyond that, she is highly creative. Although she has several outlets for her creativity including freestyle drawing, she most enjoys expressing her creative side in the kitchen, by crafting custom cakes, gingerbread houses and other baked goods.

When asked how she first developed an interest in baking, she tells the story of her Mom's struggle with cancer during her junior high years. "My Mom was always the one who came home and made dinner for our family, but when she was going through chemo therapy, she couldn't do that, so I stepped in and did the cooking. I was in the kitchen a lot," she recalls. Although it was a tough time in her life, out of that period grew a new passion. Christina began watching cooking shows and developed a special interest in cakes. In her junior year of high school, she enrolled in a beginner's cake decorating class, and from there continued on to an intermediate course at Angel's Cake Decorating studio in Bellflower. With the skills she learned in the courses, she began creating her own delectable delights. Her first custom design was a Barbie doll cake that boasted a full skirt fashioned from luscious icing. She went on to craft a car cake for her Dad's birthday, a Mickey Mouse head for her sister who is a Disney fan, a snowman, a basket cake full of flowers and numerous special birthday cakes for friends and family. "I like doing it because it is relaxing and creative and it allows me to do something for others," she says.

Each special cake creation takes Christina an average of 6 hours from start to finish. After the cake is baked, a special wire flattening device is used to shave the top off so it is flat. Then, an initial thin layer of icing is added to create a "crumb coating" which locks in crumbs to ensure that the frosting will go on evenly. After the frosting is applied, the decorating finally begins. Christina doesn't mind the painstaking work though, and her flair for baking doesn't stop with cakes. She has also created three holiday gingerbread houses (from scratch) and a haunted house for Halloween. More detail-oriented than the cakes, the gingerbread houses can take up 12 hours to complete.

Whether at work or in the kitchen, Talley works for Christina. "Talley gives me the kind of flexibility in my career that is well-suited to pursuing other interests. I work hard and am growing in my profession, but I can come in early and leave early if I need to. I can be out the door by 5:00, eat dinner and have the whole evening to devote to other activities. I could even work remotely if I wanted to. That doesn't happen in most other firms."
That's how Talley works for Christina. Find out how it can work for you too.
